Murcia has a lot at stake between now and April 23, the deadline for the Region to officially present its candidacy to be one of the venues for the 2030 World Cup. Among the documentation to be provided is the economic protocol that the Murcia City Council must sign. , owner of the Enrique Roca Stadium, which would host the matches of some of the 48 teams that will participate in a special event. And it is the 25th World Cup in history, which will commemorate the one played in 1930 in Uruguay.
The Murcian candidacy would need between 80 or 90 million euros (to be paid by all public administrations) of the 1,430 million in total investment that some specialized economic portals have planned, which also point out that holding a good part of this World Cup in Spain would generate more of 10,000 million in income, with a tourism business volume of 5,120 million. These numbers, included in the Government's Royal Decree 1034/2022, predict that World Cup visitors will spend more than 5.5 billion, that each euro of investment in organization will generate another 5.6 euros in Spain and that the country will create nearly 82,000 jobs.
Part of this investment, and also the income from the World Cup, would remain in Murcia if it finally formalizes its request as a venue. For now, the Region is well positioned after the problems of Gijón or Valencia, but it must take the last step. The Enrique Roca Stadium would receive an investment of around 37 million euros.
