Milan Marathon 2024: Laureus Italia Foundation together with Olimpia Milano in support of the “One Team” project
Laureus Sport for Good Italia Foundation participated in the Milan Marathon 2024, which yesterday, Sunday 7 April, unfolded through the streets of the Lombard capital, running the UniCredit Relay Marathon with the aim of supporting the project “One Team”, the social responsibility program promoted by Euroleague and carried out with Olimpia Milano. Among the runners too Boris Becker, German athlete, former world number one in tennis, Academy Member of Laureus and supporter of the Foundation's values. The non-competitive solidarity relay, divided into 4 fractions with distances varying between 6.5 and 13 km and now in its 12th edition, presupposes that each participating team embraces one of the projects included in the Charity Program by the 104 Non-Profit Organizations , including the Laureus Italia Foundation as Platinum Charity Partner.
Those who chose to run the relay for Laureus when registering they became full members of the Foundation team together with the German champion and were able to donate in support of the “One Team 2023-24” project. The beneficiaries of this social responsibility initiative, promoted by the top European basketball competition to promote the impact of the participating clubs on the local area, are 160 children from the Istituto Comprensivo Arcadia in Gratosoglio, a neighborhood on the southern outskirts of Milan. The kids in the project train basketball outside of school, participate in sports-educational workshops together with sports psychologist Alessandra Stella and live exciting experiences such as training sessions and meetings with the coaches and players of Olimpia Milano. The quality of the work carried out so far is demonstrated by the victory of the gold medal at the previous “One Team Awards”, but thanks to the donations of the companies and individuals who ran the marathon in solidarity with the Laureus Foundation, in the coming weeks the very young participants will be able to experience even more educational experiences, with free activities that will enrich them with new skills and allow them to tackle new educational topics.
This year too, the Laureus Foundation participated in the Milan Marathon with the aim of involving an ever-increasing number of people in solidarity projects, raising their awareness to take action to raise funds and make a real difference in the lives of young people thanks to sport. In contexts of strong economic and social deprivation, ensuring sporting activities means supporting the potential of young people and educating them to respect the rules. The acquisition of basic life skills and the building of relationships with peers and adults are fundamental aspects in the growth path, which in a stimulating and safe context of sports practice and teamwork also support the development of psychological and motor skills, as well as the emotional and physical sphere.
Thanks to the support of Arca Fondi SGR, Avis, Bosch Italia, Giorgio Armani, Ferrari Trento, Lunelli Group, LEO Pharma, Merbag, Richemont Italia and Scalo Milano Outlet&More, almost 300 runners took to the track to run alongside the Laureus Foundation and support One Team.
LAUREUS SPORT FOR GOOD ITALIA FOUNDATION
“Sport has the power to change the world” these are the words spoken by Nelson Mandela, godfather and inspirer of the Laureus movement. Laureus Sport for Good Italia Foundation uses sport as an educational learning tool, operating mainly in the suburbs of the main Italian cities. The objective is to help children and young people who live in conditions of severe economic and social deprivation to respect themselves and others, to share and respect the rules and cultural diversity, to integrate by developing a sense of belonging to a community. All through a methodology that uses sports practice as a training tool that accompanies the growth processes of the minors involved, recognizing their potential for recovery and inclusion. There were many activities that involved over 3,000 children in more than 20 different sporting activities and many collaborations with local organizations and Ambassadors, champions in sport and beyond, who support the projects in Italy.
