Bolivian Bolívar won 4-0 on a visit to Palestino from Chile on Thursday in the Chilean city of Rancagua, for the first date of Group E of the Copa Libertadores 2024.
The first two goals of the match, which was played at the El Teniente de Rancagua stadium (90 km south of Santiago), were scored by Francisco da Costa in the 27th and 35th minutes. The third was the work of Bruno Sávio, in the 63rd minute, and the last, in 83, by Ramiro Vaca.
The victory allows the Bolivian team to take advantage in their zone after the Brazilian Flamengo tied 1-1 in their visit to the Colombian Millonarios last Tuesday and leaves the Arabs as the only team without points after the debut.
The first goal came from a penalty, in the 27th minute of the match played at the El Teniente de Rancagua stadium, converted by Chico with a low shot to the right vertical that goalkeeper César Rigamonti guessed but could not contain.
The sanction occurred after a foul committed by center back Iván Román, 17, who knocked down midfielder Fernando Saucedo on the edge of the six-yard box. A foul that earned him his first yellow card and that at the end of the first half cost him expulsion, after the Argentine referee Yael Falcón cautioned him for another infraction.
Chico's second goal was a ball that crossed the area and placed in the left corner, after a good free kick taken by Ramiro Vaca from the left wing. The team led by Argentine Pablo 'Vitamina' Sánchez, reduced by numerical inferiority, ended up giving up a new penalty, committed by defender Dilan Zúñiga on Ramiro Vaca, which Rigamonti saved from Bruno Sávio but which the Brazilian attacker scored on the rebound.
The fourth and final goal was scored by midfielder Vaca, who played for Beerschot in Belgium and pushed a ball into the mouth of the goal, after a great collective play by Bolívar and the assistance of Brazilian Savio.
Bolívar's next rival will be Millonarios, who is urged to get a good result in his second presentation.
