Alpine-Piastri, what a junction
Who knows Oscar Plates as he would have done in this Alpine. Perhaps he would have risked getting burned out in an uncompetitive team, or perhaps a slow car would have allowed him to race in a more carefree manner. Certainly the Australian driver is happy with how he fared in that sensational market turning point which saw him for a few hours as a new Alpine driver for 2023.
Alpine's announcement and Piastri himself's incredible denial went around the world and started a legal dispute which was won by the pilot, confirming the organizational and communicative fool of the French team.
Piastri's joke
Time, as we know, heals wounds. And Alpine itself published content on its social channels with Piastri and the “home” driver Esteban Ocon competing on the Suzuka straight with remote-controlled cars. From Oscar – precisely – Piastri's response: “Alpine has my permission for this post“.
The reference is naturally to Piastri's response to Alpine's 2022 announcement: “I understand that, without my consent, Alpine issued a press release late this afternoon stating that I will be driving for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not drive for Alpine next year“. After that no, Piastri joined McLaren as teammate of Lando Norris. A year later, it is clear that manager Mark Webber advised his client correctly.
