Millonarios and Junior begin their path in the 2024 Copa Libertadores, in which they start directly in the group stage. They will be the only two Colombian representatives in this instance, after the elimination, in the second qualifying phase, of Atlético Nacional and Águilas Doradas.
For his part, Junior will debut as a visitor in this edition, against Botafogo, at the Nilton Santos stadium in Rio de Janeiro (Wednesday at 7 pm in Brazil, two hours less in Colombia).
The South American Football Confederation designated the referee groups for those matches. In Bogotá the Argentine Darío Herrera will be at center back, accompanied on the lines by Ezequiel Brailovsky and Facundo Rodríguez. María Laura Fortunato will be the fourth judge and Silvio Trucco and Nicolás Lamolina will be on the VAR.
It will be Herrera's third game in this edition and the second he has played for a Colombian club: he already led Atlético Nacional's 1-0 defeat against Nacional of Paraguay in Asunción, on February 21.
The background of Darío Herrera in Libertadores con Millonarios
Herrera already directed a Libertadores match against Millonarios. It was on February 22, 2022, in the blue 1-2 defeat against Fluminense, in the first leg of the second qualifying phase of the competition.
That day Herrera expelled Eduardo Sosa, from Millos. The Venezuelan, who had already been reprimanded for an argument with Felipe Melo, saw red 18 minutes into the first half, for elbowing Willian.
Herrera sanctioned a penalty that was highly protested by the Fluminense players for a foul by Yago Felipe on Daniel Ruiz. Goalkeeper Fabio saved Mackalister Silva's charge.

For the game between Botafogo and Junior, Conmebol appointed a Chilean referee group: Cristian Garay will be the center back; José Retamal and Miguel Rocha will be the assistants and the fourth judge will be Manuel Vergara. For the VAR, Juan Lara and Edson Cisternas were appointed.
It will be the third time that Garay calls a Libertadores match with a Colombian team as the protagonist: he was on May 3, 2023 in Medellín's 4-2 victory against Metropolitanos de Venezuela. And he also coached in the second leg of the quarterfinals, between Palmeiras and Pereira, on August 30.
