Luigi Rivola, one of the symbols of Romagna's passion for motors, left us yesterday at the age of 76. Just last March 1st, he presented his latest publication entitled “Classe 500. The queen of the MotoGP” at the Hotel Ala d'Oro in Lugo.
Born in Faenza in 1948, Rivola developed a great passion for motorcycles from a young age. In 1970 he began competing in the 250 category of the Italian junior championship with a Ducati, immediately obtaining excellent results. Subsequently, in 1972, he moved to the 500 class with a Suzuki, also becoming an official rider for Suzuki-Italia. His best result was a second place in Modena.
Starting in 1973, Luigi Rivola undertook journalistic activity in the weekly Moto Sport. He has collaborated with important magazines in the sector such as La Moto and Motociclismo, holding the role of editor at Motosprint and editor-in-chief at SuperWheels, as well as having worked for the website Motonline.com and the monthly Dueruote. Rivola has written several books on the history of motorcycling, many of which have also been translated into other languages. Furthermore, his texts on motorcycling have been published in the Enciclopedia dello Sport Treccani.
His passion for two wheels and his contribution to the field of specialized journalism have made Luigi Rivola an important figure in the world of motorcycling. His passing represents a great loss for the Romagna motoring community and for all those who shared his passion for racing and motors. His legacy in the field of writing and historical documentation of motorcycling will remain a point of reference for enthusiasts around the world.
