Bearman immediately fast with the Ferrari SF-24
“The SF-24 is a sincere car”the Ferrari team principal had underlined Frederic Vasseur after the winter tests in Bahrain. The objective of the Scuderia from Maranello was to correct the defects of the SF-23, fast but inconsistent, to give Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz a car capable of maintaining a constant pace without problems while being kind to the tires in terms of degradation.
The mission has been largely accomplished and only Red Bull with the leap forward of the RB20 (which still needs to be 'crushed') is still ahead of the Reds at this start of the season. In Bahrain Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc (who had to manage a critical brake problem) finished in third and fourth position and in Saudi Arabia the result would most likely have been the same (in terms of placement of the two Ferraris), but Carlos Sainz had to raise the white flag due to appendicitis.
Oliver Bearman climbed onto the SF-24 number #55 and surprised everyone by going 36 thousandths of a second from reaching Q3 after just one FP3 session (with temperatures completely different to those of Qualifying) and finishing the Grand Prix in seventh position. Davide Valsecchi thus commented on the English driver's performance in the analysis of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on his channel YouTube 'ValseMotori': “Bearman made a masterpieceI wonder where he would have arrived if he had also had Thursday's free practice available because he would certainly have qualified better – the words of Valsecchi – if the race were replayed after 48 hours I'm sure he would come fourth or fifth. Bearman's performance shows that Ferrari has made an excellent car, an easy car. If I think back to Fisichella who in 2009 made his debut with the Red team after the Spa podium in Monza without scoring points… moreover this generation of young drivers who grew up with simulator and telemetry are certainly very prepared, Liam Lawson also demonstrated this last year last year, often doing better than Tsunoda”.
