Singapore's Media Development Authority has published its classification Of Rise of the Roninestablishing that the PS5 game is intended for a adult audiencei.e. placing it in the “M18” bracket, due to references to violence and sex, for the most part.
The issue was easily predictable, even if the new Team Ninja title seemed to be able to fit into an intermediate range. Evidently, during the fights the “gore” is evident, furthermore there seem to be sexual references perhaps based on the habits and customs of 19th century Japan represented with a certain fidelity.
According to the description, Rise of the Ronin contains scenes of violence rather explicit, with copious blood flowing during sword fights, leading the classification body to choose the highest age group.
Violence and sex
There is talk of “bloodshed, scenes showing characters being cut, impaled and even decapitated, resulting in realistic depictions of fighting and their consequences,” the description reads.
These elements are also accompanied by optional content that includes suggestive themes and relationships, includes “implications of intimate relationships between characters”. The description also mentions “optional sex scenes between characters of the same sex”, with references to intimate relationships of various types “including a scene of one woman on top of another, before a dissolve”.
Other scenes show geishas in action and explicit references to sex in conversations between characters, although no details are mentioned. We recently saw trailers for the game that present weapons and various fighting styles, as well as one on the open world and the environments. The release is set for March 22, 2024 on PS5.
