Bologna sees the Champions League: Thiago Motta on the bench, Calafiori-Ferugson-Zirkzee pillars. And Europe is approaching…
Thiago Motta's Bologna wins a very important match in the Champions League race: 2-1 in the direct clash for fourth place on the pitch of Gasperini's Atalanta. A very heavy victory and comeback after the first half ended 1-0 down. In the locker room the Italian-Brazilian coach changes Orsolini with Saelemaekers and beyond the substitution, the second half saw a very determined rossoblu team that put Atalanta in crisis making the overtaking thanks to Zirkzee's penalty and Ferguson's goal.
A Bologna with their sixth consecutive victory who, with 10 days to go in Serie A, are fourth in the Champions League with 4 points over Roma and 5 over Atalanta. A team no longer surprised, but a splendid reality of this championship: solid defense, great game organization, a winning soul given by his coach (not surprisingly followed by Milan and Juventus) and two-three high-level players in a complete and well-assorted team in all departments: in addition to the 25-year-old Dutch striker Joshua Zikzee (Milan and Napoli like him a lot first of all, but Bayern Munich can buy him back for 40 million), also the 21 year old central defender Riccardo Calafiori (the former Roma player arrived low-cost from Basel in the summer, today he deserves the national team) and 24-year-old Scottish midfielder Lewis Ferguson (another player who, not surprisingly, is attracting the attention of top clubs).

Thiago Motta's Bologna scores a 2-1 comeback in Bergamo against Atalanta and extends to 51 points in fourth place, -5 from Milan and +4 from Roma, fifth, while Atalanta remains sixth at 46 points. For Gasperini's team it is the second consecutive top-flight clash with a defeat after the 4-0 defeat against Inter, while for Bologna comes the away victory after the home win of 2-0 against Verona and the sixth consecutive success.
For the clash with the rossoblu Gasperini chooses Lookman from the 1st minute, with Scamacca still on the bench. In midfield Pasalic replaced Ederson, while on the right sideline Zappacosta was preferred to Holm with De Ketelaere as the forward. On the other side, Thiago Motta still fields Fabbian as the starter and sends Ndoye onto the field from the 1st minute and Ferguson. In defense there is Calafiori alongside Beukema. Always forward Zirkzee.

Atalanta-Bologna 1-2, Zirkzee and Ferguson sign the comeback success
Fun first half with lots of plays and opportunities on both sides and constant reversals in front. In the 2nd minute Atalanta immediately threatened with De Ketelaere, triggered very well by Ruggeri but the Belgian sent it high from close range. In the 10th minute the Dea were still dangerous with Ruggieri but the defense was free. In the 12th minute Bologna reacted with Fabbian who headed just over the crossbar. In the 16th minute it was Atalanta's turn again to threaten with Lookman but Skorupski did well to block. The Orobic team then broke the deadlock, with Lookman in the 28th minute who is quick in the winning tapin after a less than perfect clearance from Skorupski. Bologna's reaction can be seen immediately at the start of the second half. In the 55th minute Calafiori anticipates Kolasinac and finishes with an almost certain shot but Carnesecchi's intervention to block on the line is fantastic.
In the 58th minute Thiago Motta's team equalised. Zirkzee makes no mistakes from the spot and scores goal number 10 in Serie A. Penalty awarded for a foul by Koopmeiners on Saelemaekers. Very little passes and Bologna doubles. In the 61st minute, Ferguson's first-time shot was perfect and beat Carnesecchi to make it 1-2. Gasperini's team immediately tries to react and in the 74th minute a great opportunity arrives for Miranchuk with a long-range shot that Skorupski deflects into a corner. Atalanta were inevitably exposed in the opponent's half but Carnesecchi outdid himself on at least two occasions.
