Satisfaction and problems
The 2024 season for the Ferrari opened with the pleasant certification of its role as second force on the track. The Maranello cars finished the Sakhir race in third and fourth position, with Carlos Sainz who collected his first podium since the 2023 Austin GP and Charles Leclerc who still managed to place ahead of George Russell's Mercedes despite the significant brake problems which heavily influenced him throughout the match.
However, these technical problems represent the main negative aspect of the first weekend of the Ferrari season. In fact, in the press conference after the GP, it was learned that not only was the Monegasque slowed down by difficulties temperature management of the brakes. In fact, Sainz also suffered, albeit to a lesser extent similar problemsfinding himself forced to manage his driving style accordingly.
Sainz is also in difficulty
“In the first stint and at the beginning of the second stint, every time we were in traffic, we had a lot of brake vibrations and at a certain point the pedal started to become 'long' – the Spaniard explained to journalists after the GP – so it was a balancing act: should I try to get rid of the dirty air and overtake the others, or start saving the brakes in fear of something happening?”
“I started saving money by moving a bit on the straight to cool the side that was getting hotter – continued Sainz in his analysis of the problem – and the vibrations started to improve. Then I could start making moves and moving forward. But the start wasn't the best. The brakes were a limitation for a while longer. Then, once everything settled down, I could set my pace, make my passes and aim for the podium“, he concluded.
Towards Jeddah
At this point in Maranello it will be essential to find a solution to this problem in view of next weekend, when F1 will be back on stage very fast Jeddah city circuit. Having a brake failure on that track is the last thing any driver would hope for.
