The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) has decided to keep the Phase 1 of Environmental Contingency due to Ozone in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexicotogether with all the measures established in the prevention programs.
The main objective of these actions is to protect the health of the population by reducing their exposure to contaminated air and reducing the generation of pollutants that could aggravate the situation in the coming days.
The CAMe reported that, this Friday, the air quality in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico remained at worrying levels, with an ozone concentration that reached 187 ppb at the FES Aragón monitoring station, located in Nezahualcóyotl, Mexico state.
This situation is attributed to the unfavorable weather conditions that prevailed during the daycharacterized by the presence of a high pressure system in the center of the country, an air mass with low humidity content, intense solar radiation, moderate to strong atmospheric stability and weak wind.
These factors hinder the dispersion of ozone and contribute to maintaining air quality in a range considered very poor.
For Saturday, February 24, weather forecasts show no signs of improvementas the same adverse atmospheric conditions are expected to persist.
This indicates that air quality will continue to be very poor in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico.
Given this situation, CAMe has decided to keep Phase 1 of the Ozone Environmental Contingency activated in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico, along with all the corresponding measures established in the prevention and response programs for atmospheric environmental contingencies.
The CAMe pointed out that it is important for the population to take additional precautions, such as limiting outdoor activities, avoiding the use of private vehicles as much as possible and reducing electrical energy consumption to help improve air quality and prevent health problems associated with air pollution.
