Step forward compared to 2023
Charles Leclerc and Ferrari's 2024 seems to have started under a lucky star. While waiting to close his last half day of testing in Bahrain this afternoon, the Monegasque spoke at a press conference about the sensations experienced at the wheel of the SF-24 in these first two days, highlighting the big step forward made by the team compared to start of last championship. A step which, however, according to #16, is not yet sufficient to be able to compete on an equal footing with Red Bull.
Red Bull even stronger
“It's hard to say where we are. We did our program well – acknowledged Leclerc speaking to journalists present in Sakhir – and there were no negative surprises. All the test data contributed to ensuring that the expectations from the simulator were correct. My feeling, however, is that Red Bull is still very far ahead.”. What gives the class of '97 confidence is a greater understanding of the car compared to what has been experienced in the past.
SF-24 less sensitive to wind
“Now we have a much better foundation – commented the Ferrari driver – last year we didn't know exactly where our weak points were. It was one of the worst tests of my career. Now we know what direction we need to go with development. This gives us a good feeling. With the SF-23 – he concluded – every time the wind changed, the balance of the car changed completely. Now it's improved. The machine behaves much more naturally. We noticed this already on the first day“.
