Microsoft has confirmed various things regarding Game Pass between the podcast with updates on the future of Xbox which aired yesterday and a contemporary interview published by The Verge in the last few hours, sources from which we have had confirmation that Game Pass will not arrive on PS5 and Nintendo Switch and that is a sustainable and profitable business.
During the podcast with updates on the future of the platform, the head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, clearly said that Xbox Game Pass will remain aexclusive to Xbox and PC consoles.
In essence, the essence of Game Pass as a fundamental and characteristic element of Xbox consoles is reiterated, therefore the service will not be brought to other platforms.
Booth mentioned Game Pass exclusivity on Xbox as one of the points of the platform's future strategy, also reiterating that the first party games will arrive on day one within the catalog as another fundamental point in the characteristics of the service.
A sustainable and profitable business
In the interview published by The Verge, Phil Spencer reported that Game Pass “is in a place where it is a sustainable and profitable business for us,” the head of Microsoft Gaming said.
However, this does not mean that the entire Xbox business is based exclusively on Game Pass: Spencer reiterated the importance of keeping the gaming channel open standard marketwith the possibility of purchasing games at the same time as the subscription service.
“We should be looking at the overall health of the business on Xbox, which is people buying games, subscribing to individual games or services,” specifying that this diversity of models is fundamental to the overall health of the ecosystem, with the difference being rather fact that “revenues from Game Pass subscriptions are constants“, which can be a significant advantage.
During the podcast, Microsoft also reported that Xbox Game Pass subscribers have reached 34 million users, but this, based on subsequent updates, appears to also include Game Pass Core userswhich would demonstrate a stall in the growth of Xbox services after the Live Gold transformation, remaining essentially at the same size as they were in 2022.
