Granblue Fantasy: Relink is excellent for Digital Foundry, but PS5 and PS4 Pro aren't entirely convincing

Digital Foundry has published a new video analysis, this time dedicated to the versions PS5 and PS4 Of Granblue Fantasy: Relink. The general verdict on the graphics sector is absolutely positive: tech enthusiasts say that it is “excellent, with beautiful and well-animated cutscenes”, however both graphics modes on PS5 are not fully convincing, while on PS4 Pro there is no improvement compared to the PS4 version.

But let's go step by step. Granblue Fantasy: Relink offers two graphics modes on PS5, namely the classics Quality and Performance presetsexcept that in this case the range in terms of resolution is much wider than in many other games.

Quality mode features a locked framerate at 30 fps and 4K resolution. The framerate remains anchored to the set target, but frame pacing problems were noted during the most intense fights and too intense motion blur, which could bother some.

As regards Performance Mode, the framerate rises to 60 fps and remains anchored to this target in the vast majority of cases, however the cut in resolution is substantial, given that it drops to 1080p (where we usually find 1440p or at least a dynamic resolution). As a result, despite an excellent use of TAA to minimize aliasing, the image quality appears significantly lower, especially for distance details and is not suitable for large 4K screens or if you play very close.

How does it perform on PS4 and PS4 Pro?

As for the PS4 version of Granblue Fantasy: Relink, the resolution is 1080p with framerate locked to 30 fps, which shows some hiccups similar to what we saw on PS5. The general quality is identical to that of Sony's flagship console, with the exception of a less elaborate lighting system and lower resolution textures in some situations, while motion blur is completely absent.

And the version PS4 Pro? Identical in every way to its PS4 counterpart, without any obvious improvement despite the greater power available to the console.

In short, the general verdict on the game appears positive, but Digital Foundry expected better optimization regarding the graphics modes of the PS5 and the PS4 Pro version.
