The same reason people or agencies buy armored vehicles is often the reason they don't want to talk much about them. When we asked Audi at the end of last year who on earth had bought eight very heavy Audi A8s for almost 650,000 euros each, we were of course told that they were not allowed to tell much about it. The mysterious Audis have already been spotted a few times and we can tell you more about them.
Yesterday, two of the eight Audis took action for the Marengo process. You can see that video at the bottom of the page. It appears that the Transport and Support Department has purchased the A8s and that the Special Support Team (BOT) or the Extra Secure Transport (EBV) drive the Audis. We were sleeping a little, because we also came across videos from last year showing the Audis.
What does the BOT do?
The Custodial Institutions Service describes the BOT as follows: 'Transport where there is an external threat (for example an attempt at liberation or liquidation) is carried out with a special security assignment. We deploy the Special Support Team for this. The detainees are transported in armored vehicles.' Can't miss, right?
Underneath the skin there is of course more going on with what the brand calls the 'best secured Audi ever'. This version is officially called Audi A8 L Security and the ready weight of 3,950 kilos is due to the armor plating. To push the heavy Audi forward, the armored sedan gets the V8 engine from the faster S8, which is good for 435 hp and 600 Nm. It is also the version with the longer wheelbase.
A relatively low top speed
The top speed of the Audi A8L Security is 'only' 210 km/h, because the run-flat tires are not allowed to go faster. These are tires that you can still drive for a while if they are punctured. By the way, you can make it even crazier: you can also order the Audi A8 L Security with a W12 engine that produces 500 hp and 625 Nm. They will be a bit more expensive.
