The new police chief will take office in April.
Helsinki a deputy judge has been appointed as the new police chief of the police department Jari Liukku. Liukku will start as police chief on April 1, and the temporary position will last for five years.
Liukku has previously worked as the director of the serious and organized crime prevention center at the European Union's law enforcement cooperation agency (Europol).
In the years 2010–2017, he served as police chief of the West Uusimaa Police Department. Before this, he had worked, among other things, as deputy police chief of the Helsinki Police Department and deputy chief of the Central Criminal Police.
A total of four people applied for the position.
