The Emirates Astronomical Society said that the birth of the Shawwal crescent will coincide with the occurrence of the total solar eclipse on April 8, at 22:22 pm UAE time.
The association explained that this eclipse will confirm the absence of the moon above the western horizon after sunset on April 8, and its birth before dawn will mean the possibility of seeing it after sunset the next day, April 9, in most parts of the Islamic world, which means that there will be agreement that Wednesday, April 10, 2024 will be The first day of Shawwal and the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
For his part, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, said that the total solar eclipse will be seen in North America, passing through Mexico, the United States and Canada, if weather conditions permit viewing, and it will not be seen in the Arabian Peninsula.
He added that the eclipse will begin over the South Pacific Ocean, and the first location in continental North America that will witness it is the Pacific coast of Mexico at approximately 11:07 a.m. Pacific time. The total solar eclipse will be visible along a narrow path extending from Texas to Maine on April 8. 2024, and will be visible in all 48 contiguous US states.
