Music | The guitarist tells Rolling Stone magazine what it was like to do country music with Beyoncé

Pop- and a singer known for his r&b music Beyonce has moved into country music and enlisted the help of the best artists in the field.

At the turn of the week, Beyoncé released two country-inspired songs, Texas Hold'em and 16 Carriages. The second one is played by a well-known pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolphwhich tells about his collaboration with the superstar For Rolling Stone music magazine.

Randolph plays rock and country-influenced gospel with his band Robert Randolph and the Family Band, but has also visited Elton John's, Ozzy Osbourne and Santana's on the discs of legends like this.

Rolling Stone magazine named Randolph one of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time in 2010.

Randolph was surprised to hear that an artist like Beyoncé wanted to make music with him.

“You were chosen for this, because you are the only one who can do this”, drummer-bassist Raphael Saadiq said to Randolph when he arrived in Los Angeles to work 16 Carriages – song.

“Beyoncé already had an idea of ​​what she wanted. He wanted the spark of country. He said he liked how I could make my instrument sound like a singer,” Randolph tells Rolling Stone.

Beyoncé, Randolph and a few other musicians gathered in the studio and music quickly began to emerge.

“We were on pace. We tried different things and recorded a couple of takes. He sang with us from that seat. We did everything just after him.”

Guitarist is excited about Beyoncé's new style direction, as country is a genre dominated by white musicians, even though it has its roots in black Americans.

“It's crazy that the world doesn't understand the history of country, fiddle, dobro guitar and banjo. Where did those influences come from? Who lived in the barns?” Randolph reminds.

Beyoncé's upcoming album is currently titled Act II and will be released on March 29. The album is part of the album trilogy described by Beyoncé, the first part of which was released in 2022, with a house influence Renaissance.
