The new Lancia Ypsilon officially inaugurates the new course of the Turin brand which concretizes its Renaissance process with the Cassina Limited Edition for its best seller, the first of three models that aim to bring the Italian Stellantis brand back to the top in Europe too. An edition of 1906 units which pays homage to the year the car company was founded and at the same time brings the first fully electric Ypsilon onto the road. We saw a preview of the new Lancia Ypsilon special series which debuted in the Cassina store in Milan, here's what it looks like in person.
Design between past and future
Starting from the stylistic manifesto launched in 2023 with the Pu+Ra HPE concept, the new Lancia Ypsilon resumes some of the brand's historical stylistic features emphasizing that link between past and future. 4.08 meters long, the new generation boasts 243 mm more than the current version, is 1.44 meters high and 1.76 meters wide for a total weight of 1,584 kg. Compared to the past, it is therefore also wider and is equipped with 17'' wheels. The soft lines of the exterior they recall the Aurelia and the Flaminia, starting from the front with the modern interpretation of the glass, with the particularly expressive luminous signature that characterizes the front part. Here we also find the shiny black motif inspired by the Lancia Beta Montecarlo, with the lettering that we will also find on the rear and the renewed brand logo. The chalice and writing motif will also return on the other models that Lancia will present in the coming years. Moving on to the rear, the circular headlights immediately stand out here as a tribute to the Stratos, within which the horizontally arranged Y motif returns. Among them there is also the aforementioned lettering, with a satin stainless steel finish.
The interiors of the Lancia Ypsilon Limited Edition Cassina
Inside the new Lancia Ypsilon we find ourselves appreciating a sort of premium lounge, embellished by the presence of the Cassina multifunctional coffee table made of bio-based plastic and covered in leather. Made by hand, it underlines the link between the two brands and the craftsmanship of Made in Italy. Once again drawing on tradition, the new Ypsilon boasts “cannelloni” seat covers with double stitching, made of recycled blue velvet and recycled PVC. The blue also returns in other elements of the passenger compartment, such as the dashboard and in the inserts of the door panels and dashboard. All details that help to underline the elegance sought by the brand with this space. The seats are also massaging and heated, another element that makes this B-segment a one-of-a-kind car.
On-board technologies
It then debuts on the new Lancia Ypsilon the new SALA infotainment system., a virtual interface whose acronym stands for Sound Air Light Augmentation. The controls for audio, ambient lighting and climate are concentrated here. Behind the steering wheel we find a seamless 20.5'' screen that integrates digital dashboard and touch screen, with the former measuring 10.25'' and having a customizable layout. Integrated into the multimedia system is the SALA HUB virtual assistant. On-board technologies include level 2 safety and driving assistance systems, with adaptive cruise control with lane control and also Traffic Jam Assist with Stop&Go function.
Powertrain and autonomy
The new Lancia Ypsilon Limited Edition Cassina is also the first 100% electric car from the Turin brand. Under the skin we find a powertrain consisting of a 156 HP engine, 115 kW combined with a 51 kWh battery which guarantees the premium hatchback a range of 403 km. The compatibility of the new Ypsilon with fast charging allows you to recover from 20 to 80% of the travel range in 24 minutes while it is possible to recover 100 km in 10 minutes. Precisely to facilitate this process, two different packages designed by Free2move Charge have been presented, designed for both home and travel charging.
