The National Supplementary Pension Council (CNPC) unanimously approved, this Wednesday, 7th, a resolution that provides for two forms of enrollment of participants in benefit plans administered by closed entities: conventional and automatic – the latter being only available to plans with contribution from sponsors.
The innovation, according to a note distributed by the CNPC, is that from now on all types of sponsors – both from the public and private sectors – are allowed to use automatic enrollment, a measure that had been practiced only in health benefit plans. public servants. The objective is to encourage employees to join the supplementary pension plan.
The decision makes it mandatory for participants to be notified of the possibility of opting out of membership, which must be completed within 120 days. A full refund of the amounts contributed between the moment of automatic membership and the eventual withdrawal of the participant is also provided for.
The rule also provides that the participant, registered conventionally or automatically, can cancel their registration in the supplementary pension plan at any time, as long as they are not yet enjoying the benefits.
In the CNPC's assessment, the approval of the measure “aligns Brazil with the good practices of public pension policy adopted by several countries, such as the United Kingdom, the United States and New Zealand, and the recommendation of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), approved in 2022, in the document “Recommendation of the Council for the Good Design of Defined Contribution Pension Plans”.
