Former president Jair Bolsonaro invited his supporters to a meeting this Wednesday, 7th. In a message on social media, Bolsonaro marked the appointment in São Sebastião, a city on the north coast of São Paulo where he would give a statement to the Federal Police (PF) . Bolsonaro and lawyer Fábio Wajngarten are targets in an investigation into the alleged crime of “intentional harassment” of a humpback whale.
In a video, the former president confirms that he will be on Rua da Praia to welcome supporters to “take a photo” and “exchange an idea”. “You know that the PF had scheduled my statement in this city for tomorrow, February 7th, at 3pm. I don't know why they decided to postpone it, even to another location. But, as many people had already expressed that they would like to come and see me, have a chat, take a photo, exchange an idea, I decided to keep that commitment”, he said.
In June 2023, a video showing a person approaching the animal on a jetski, in São Sebastião, circulated on the internet. The former president had spent the Corpus Christi holiday in the region, where he met with councilor Wagner Teixeira, who was fined by Ibama for 'disregarding whale watching rules'.
Despite claiming that it does not know why the testimony was postponed, the PF had already identified the planning of pro-Bolsonaro demonstrations for the same day, as revealed by the Metrópoles portal. The mobilization was scheduled to take place in front of the PF police station in the coastal city of São Paulo. Now, the testimony will be held on the 27th of this month.
