These are test days, we try. You take to the track with strange gadgets (the prize goes to Aprilia which had a sort of perforated antenna on the tail to control the aerodynamic flows, like in F1), you change a thousand things, you ride with used, very used, new tyres. And who knows what else. But it is inevitable that the eye always falls on the stopwatch because this is the soul of motorsport.
So even if it has little importance, in the end, the fact that Jorge Martin placed ahead of Pecco Bagnaia – especially after the end of last season's world championship – is something that made an impression. Even if, as we said, it was only the first day of testing in view of the 2024 season which will start in Qatar from 8 to 10 March.
Are they valid indications? No, obviously, and in fact behind the Spaniard from Ducati Pramac came the rookie Pedro Acosta (GasGas) and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) and the reigning world champion did not go beyond 16th place. It's more interesting to try to understand what Bagnaia has been up to. We know that he worked a lot on the front fork, a completely new part and on the engine. And here comes the news: although the V4 is a monster, according to Bagnaia it still has room for growth. Poor competitors.
And Marquez? From what we understand, beyond the ninth period, he appeared to be in a bit of difficulty. But even here it is too early to say. Conclusions? These are testing days. Let them work.
