Fernando Gaviria achieved victory in the first stage of the Colombia Tour 2024, which took place this Tuesday between Paipa and Duitama, in Boyacá, in which he was the fastest at the end of the day, and is the leader of the competition.
Great job by the Movistar team, who always had their packer on guard to keep them away from any victory. He crossed the finish line and did not raise his arms at the end of this long sprint.

Fourth win
Gaviria is 29 years old. His record includes 52 victories, including five stages and regularity champion in the 2017 Giro d'Italia.
It is Gaviria's fourth victory in the event, after having won the first three days in the Oro y Paz, as the competition was called in 2018.
And in 2019 he did not participate in the third stage, while Gaviria did not take part in the test a year later.
The stage started very quickly. From the first kilometers the escape was sought and it progressed, it became effective. The six escapees were Brayan Sánchez (Team Medellín), Ignacio Prado (Canels), Diego Ochoa (Team Saitel), Cristian Muñoz (NU), David Gómez (Sistecrédito) and Iván Ojeda (Colombia Potencia de Vida).
They reached a maximum difference of close to two minutes, while the group of big favorites traveled calmly, under intense rain as they passed through Sogamoso.
Every time the end of the stage approached, the leaders tried to keep the gap from falling, but that was impossible, since the goal of the packers' teams was for the finish to be a mass arrival.
Thus, 20 kilometers from the finish line, the clock showed only 22 seconds difference between the escapees and the large group, so capture was imminent.
The group came upon them and eight km from the finish line the hunt was achieved and the compact lot was ready for the final packing, for the party of the last 200 meters.
This Wednesday the second fraction will take place, which will unite the Malecón de Paipa and Santa Rosa de Viterbo, of 168 kilometers.
