There is exactly one week left until the presentation of the Maranello team's new single-seater, but behind the scenes the team is active in preparing for the new season. After having carried out the first ignition of the SF-24, the car that will compete in the 2024 Formula 1 world championship, preparations are also continuing at Ferrari on the driver front, not just on the simulator.
Last week Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc had in fact taken to the track with the SF-23 in Barcelona for a test session organized with Pirelli, with the aim of helping the Milanese company in the development of the 2025 tyres. Furthermore, the two they also had the opportunity to travel with the F1-75, the 2022 single-seater, in order to be able to accumulate kilometers without restrictions, as permitted by the regulations.
The choice to also bring the old F1-75 was planned by Cavallino also to give Oliver Bearman and Arthur Leclerc the opportunity to travel freely and accumulate experience on board an F1 car.
However, with the Bahrain tests just around the corner in a few weeks, the Red team has decided to continue with the private test sessions by lapping at its home circuit in Fiorano. With Pirelli demo tires and a single-seater that now has at least two seasons under its belt, as required by the regulations, the drivers were able to run freely without any constraints in terms of mileage.
This morning the honor and burden of bringing the single-seater used in the 2022 season onto the track fell to the youngest of the Leclerc brothers: for Arthur, appointed simulator driver together with Antonio Fuoco and Davide Rigon, it was the second outing ever on board a Formula 1 car after the Barcelona test. In this way Leclerc will be able to continue to accumulate experience and better understand the behavior of the car, having an additional tool to compare the sensations on the track with those in virtual reality.
In the afternoon it was Carlos Sainz's turn, in recent days in Italy both for the presentation of the CS55 kart line created in collaboration with the OTK group, and to better prepare for the season, completing some meetings with the engineers and continuing the work on the simulator. This is the Spaniard's first outing on the track after Ferrari's announcement excluding him from the Scuderia's future plans, given that Lewis Hamilton will arrive in his place in 2025.
However, Sainz is clearly intent on preparing his last championship as a Cavallino driver in the best possible way. The focus, at least in the immediate future, is entirely on Bahrain and the first round of the season, but behind the scenes it is clear that the Madrid native wants to do his best on the track, also to convince other teams to focus on him next year, also thanks to a market that offers him various opportunities.
