MotoGP test, Fernandez injury: say goodbye to Sepang
MotoGP has just started, and it already has to deal with two defections in the Sepang tests. After Franco Morbidelli's knockout both for the rest of the program in Malaysia and in the Lusail tests, too Raul Fernandez say hello to Malaysia.
The decision was made official a short while ago as a precaution following a crash reported this morning in turn 11. The Spaniard did not suffer serious injuries, but after a visit to hospital he chose not to aggravate one severe bruising to the pelvis and hip and to give up the tests.
The statement
The Trackhouse Racing driver has opted for prudence and will return home to be in 100% shape ahead of the Lusail tests scheduled for February 19-20: “First of all, I would like to apologize to Aprilia and our Trackhouse Racing MotoGP Team. This morning, in the first laps, I had a big crash due to the track conditions. Honestly, I didn't expect it. But due to this crash I will not be able to continue the test here in Sepang. I feel really bad, because we won't have the chance to continue to understand the new bike better and learn how it feels“, this is Fernandez's comment.
“For me now it will be important to recover well and rest. Riding the bike in these conditions is not safe for me, so I have to focus on my recovery and try to be at 100% in the tests in Qatar to be able to do all the work we have planned here. I want to apologize once again to Aprilia and the team“, he concluded.
