The withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from a large fortified area near Donetsk indicates a weakening of Kyiv’s defense capabilities, says military expert, retired colonel Anatoly Matviychuk. He expressed this opinion about the actions of the Ukrainian military in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
“This suggests that Ukrainian troops have weakened and can no longer take up defensive positions over vast territories. They concentrate their efforts on some selected areas. This speaks of the sober approach of the Ukrainian Armed Forces command to preserve personnel for the future, because they are going to continue the offensive in the spring. That is, the troops must be preserved, and for this it is necessary to reduce the front of defense and increase the density of defense. I believe this is a forced tactical maneuver with the prospect of increasing the defense capability of the army,” he explained.
According to the specialist, the latest actions of the Russian military have greatly undermined the defense of the Ukrainian side.

According to Igor Kimakovsky, adviser to the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin, the Armed Forces of Ukraine left a large fortified area near Donetsk.
