Corruption, Gabriele Visco arrested in Rome: the son of the former minister under house arrest
Four people, including Gabriele Visco, son of former minister Vincenzo Visco, were placed under house arrest in Rome for corruption and illicit influence trafficking. The precautionary measures were issued as part of an investigation by the Rome Prosecutor's Office and were carried out by the financiers of the Special Currency Police Unit. Two entrepreneurs and a lawyer were also involvedthe investigation concerns alleged manipulations in a million-dollar tender, with the aim of favoring an entrepreneur close to Gabriele Visco.
The Prosecutor's Office stated that the former public manager would have facilitated the awarding of the contract in exchange for money and other benefits. Furthermore, according to what Corriere della sera reports, Visco was accused of having entrusted a consultancy assignment to a lawyer for a amount of 230 thousand eurosobtaining the refund of part of the compensation for services never performed.
“The investigation – explains a note from the Prosecutor's Office – has made it possible to hypothesize a widespread and consolidated system of illicit relationships in which a former public manager, with the mediation of a Roman entrepreneur, would have favored, in exchange for money and other benefits, the awarding of a tender of over 4 million of euros to a company attributable to a builder and attempted to facilitate the hiring of a person close to the latter by a public subsidiary”. In this context, the note continues, “a corruption affair in which the former manager would have entrusted a consultancy assignment (for an amount of 230 thousand euros) at the institution in which he was employed to a lawyer he knew, obtaining the refund of part of the fees invoiced by the lawyer for services that were never actually carried out”.
Who is Gabriele Visco
Born in 1972, Visco was born in Rome. In July 2007, after gaining experience at Telecomstarted working at Invitalia. His career was characterized by rapid success within the company controlled by Via XX Settembre, which deals with investments and business. Initially joining as a consultant, Visco Jr quickly rose through the ranks to become manager of the company, at the time led by Domenico Arcuri. A rise that has also generated several controversies, considering his family connection with Vincenzo Visco, former finance minister in the Prodi and D'Alema governmentsas well as at the top of the Ministry of Economy during Romano Prodi's government between 2006 and 2008.
