The Chinese regime congratulated the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, on his “historic victory” in this Sunday's elections (4) and offered to strengthen “friendship ties” with the small Central American nation.
“We extend our most sincere congratulations to President @nayibbukele and his party @nuevasideas, for the historic triumph in these elections. From now on, we are at your disposal to strengthen the ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation between countries”, posted the Embassy of China on social network X.
With around 31.5% of the votes counted until this Sunday night (4), the Salvadoran Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) released a partial that shows the governing party, Novas Ideias (NI), with 1,295,888 votes, well above from the Farabundo Martí Front for National Liberation (FMLN), on the left, with 110,244 votes, and from the Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena), on the right, with 96,700.
Even without the end of the official count, Bukele, 42 years old, declared himself the winner of the election that guarantees him presidential re-election. His popularity is based on the campaign to combat criminal gangs, which left behind El Salvador's long chapter as the most violent country in the world.
“According to our numbers, we won the presidential election with more than 85% of the votes and a minimum of 58 of the 60 deputies in the Assembly (the country's unicameral parliament),” wrote Bukele on the social network X.
