The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, expressed his solidarity with Chile this Sunday and offered help to combat the devastating fires of recent days that have left 99 dead in the Valparaíso region.
“My solidarity with the noble people of Chile in these difficult times as a result of the terrible forest fires that have affected their nation (…) Chile has the support and helping hand of Venezuelans,” the president expressed through of X.
The statement comes a day after the Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, spoke with his Chilean counterpart, Alberto van Klaveren Storkalso to express support and an offer of help.
“We are ready to provide the necessary support in such difficult circumstances,” said Gil.
The fires, which take place 100 kilometers west of Santiago, have left almost a hundred fatalities, of which only 32 have been identified, reported the Legal Medical Service (SML) of Chile.

The Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, said this Sunday that the figure “is going to grow significantly” and that “It's the biggest tragedy.” that the country has experienced since the earthquake of February 27, 2010.
According to a government estimate, there are more than 370 missing, which does not imply that all of them are dead.
The latest report from the National Forestry Corporation indicates that, at least, there are currently seven active fires in Valparaíso, the largest being the one in the Lago Peñuelas/Las Tablas Reserve, next to the main highway in the area,
