Dozens of Vasco fans were arrested this Sunday (4) by the Military Police (PM) in Rio de Janeiro. The arrests took place hours before the Vasco and Flamengo classic, scheduled for 7pm at the Maracanã stadium. Because of the great rivalry, there is a history of clashes between fans of the two clubs. Most of the fights happen outside the stadium and even in municipalities neighboring the capital.
According to the PM, 32 Vasco residents were detained in a joint action by police officers from the 7th and 12th Military Police Battalions (BPM) after an “intense confrontation” with Flamengo fans on Rua Oliveira Botelho, in the Neves neighborhood, in São Gonçalo, a city in the region. metropolitan. The location is more than 20 kilometers from Maracanã.
According to a publication on the PM's profile on the social network X (formerly Twitter), the action resulted in the seizure of five wooden sticks. The incident was forwarded to the 73rd Police Station (DP).
In the center of Niterói, a city neighboring São Gonçalo, three more Vasco fans were arrested by police officers from the 12th BPM. The agents seized homemade bombs and wooden sticks from them. The case was registered at the 76th DP.
Attack the vehicle
In the city of Rio, eight Vasco fans were arrested after throwing an explosive device at a vehicle from the Specialized Stadium Policing Battalion (Bepe). The attack took place in the Bonsucesso neighborhood, on Avenida Brasil, one of the main access roads to the central region of Rio. The incident was referred to the Special Court for Fans and Major Events.
Four more Vasco residents were detained by agents from the Barreira do Vasco Pacification Police Unit (UPP), on Rua General Almério de Moura, in São Cristóvão, a neighborhood neighboring Maracanã. Wooden sticks, fireworks and an explosive device were seized from them.
About 1 hour and a half before the match started, the police estimated that 50 Vasco residents were detained. A revolver, sock filled with stones, mouth guard and drugs were also part of the seized material.
