“Afro-descendants like this like batuque”, said the president to a young black woman at an event at ABC Paulista on Friday (Feb 2)
The senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) criticized the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for suggesting that a black woman liked “batuque and drum”. The statement, given by the Chief Executive at an event at ABC Paulista on Friday (2.Feb.2024), was called “racism” It is “bad character” by the son of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
“Lula is not innocent at all. Instead of honoring the young woman with the award, he limited her to a prejudiced and mediocre vision”, he wrote this Saturday (January 3) on his profile on X (formerly Twitter).
Flávio also brought up the episode in which the president said that Brazil has “deep gratitude”for what was produced by the African continent in the country during slavery. The declaration is from July 2023, during Lula's visit to Cape Verde.
Lula is not innocent at all. Instead of honoring the young woman with the award, he limited her to a prejudiced and mediocre vision.
And recently Lula thanked Africa for everything that was produced during 350 years of slavery.
It's racism. It's bad behavior. It's disrespect! pic.twitter.com/Mo1iIjfqGD

Here is what the president said in full: “This pretty girl here… I was asking: 'What is this girl doing sitting there? What is this girl doing sitting there and I haven't heard anyone say her name?'. I said: 'She's a singer. She will sing'. Then I asked: 'No, there won't be music. So is she going to drum something? Because an Afro-descendant likes a batuque, a drum'. It is also not”.
And he continued: “I said: 'Wow, so she's someone's girlfriend'. It's not either. What is this girl? This girl was awarded next year as the most important apprentice in this company and won an award in Germany”.
