Acosta respects Marquez
It's no mystery that after his dream debut with the 2021 title in Moto3, many have compared Pedro Acosta to Marc Marquez. The young driver from Murcia, although proud to be paired with a champion of such stature, however wanted to point out: “He is Marc Marquez, I am Pedro Acosta.”
The 19-year-old Spaniard will find himself making his debut in MotoGP this season – with two world titles won – and he knows he has all eyes on him and the label of potential future phenomenon of the category firmly attached to him.
A non-aggressive Marquez
In interviews on the sidelines of the GasGas presentation, Acosta was asked about Marquez and what level of competitiveness he will show on the track: “Everyone knows who he is Marc Marquez and what Marc Marquez did. Should he do well, it won't be a surprise. He will certainly be at the front and we saw this in the Valencia tests.
He did fast laps, was in front and had good pace. We saw the calmest Marc Marquez in the last seven years. He didn't do anything special, the bike didn't move. We didn't see him aggressive and he was already fourth or fifth. It's a good start for him.”
Acosta will be on track as early as February 1st in the Malaysia shakedown, to continue familiarizing himself with his bike ahead of the 2024 season.
