Andrea Agnelli and the Super League, the revenge of the former Juventus president
Andrea Agnelli is enjoying months of revenge on the Super League front. The Financial Times in recent days he has not ruled out a return to Juventus and from there began the dreams of millions of Juventus fans who love him and do not forget the golden era with the conquest of nine consecutive championships, a tricolor streak that has never happened in the history of Italian football (to which must be added two Champions League).
But in the short term, while Juve continues apace with the project launched last year by John Elkann with Gianluca Ferrero as president, Maurizio Scanavino (in addition to the arrival in the summer of Cristiano Giuntoli as Football Director), Andrea Agnelli looks at the prospects that can give the Super League to European football. If UEFA president Alexander Ceferin – on the eve of the season that will see the start of the new super Champions League – in the last few hours has once again ruled out that it will be born (“This is a non-project, something that will never happen, because nobody wants it”) , the former Juventus number one himself had underlined to the Financial Times: «Give us time to work, it's not like things happen like this by magic». And again: “We have to find the clubs, we are working on the B2B part, because if we don't have the clubs to participate in the competition, we can't reach consumers”.
A Super League project on which Real Madrid and Barcelona continue to work. The president of LaLiga Javier Tebas, responding to those who asked him if he fears the start of this tournament in recent days, responded with an analysis: “Where Florentino is (Perez, president of Real Madrid Editor's note) nothing ever dies, I say as long as he never loses and like David Copperfield he does magic tricks. His rabbit in the hat in this case is that the Super League does not harm the La Liga. But the reality is different and will damage the national championships. I fear the project carried out since 2000 by Florentino, according to which the richest clubs dominate, it is as if a country was dominated by the richest. I think we have a lot of work to do so that the project doesn't go ahead. They have to prove that their project is better than the format of the new Champions League and at the moment it is worse. Their project does not conform to the European sports model and from an audiovisual point of view what they have proposed is crazy. – concludes Tebas – First they say that the matches will be watched for free, then they retract this. However, Florentino should never be left for dead.”
“Around twenty clubs are very motivated by the project and talks are currently underway with another 30 clubs. We have enough teams to start, but we want to involve everyone”, announced Anas Laghrari, co-founder of A22 Sports, the company that promotes the Super League project. In short, a work in progress to continue to monitor more than from a 2024/225 perspective, in the medium term.
