What a duel with Andrea Kimi Antonelli
Oliver Bearman after entering the Ferrari Driver Academy in October 2021, he was appointed Scuderia Ferrari's reserve driver for 2024 together with Antonio Giovinazzi and Robert Shwartzman, drivers involved in the WEC, a category which has five out of eight events in conjunction with F1 in 2024. Bearman was born in Chelmsford in Essex in Great Britain on May 8, 2005 and is very young considering he has just turned 18. In 2024 he will be engaged for the second consecutive season in F2 with the Prema team and will have Andrea Kimi Antonelli as his teammate making his debut in the category who will experience the debut of the new Dallara with references to ground effect. It will therefore be a cross-match between England against Italy and the Ferrari academy against the Mercedes academy, of which Antonelli has been part of since 2019.
Bearman's palmarès
Bearman won the Italian and German F4 in 2021 with the Van Amersfoort team, the first to do it in both championships in the same year – guess who did the same in 2022? Yes, Andrea Kimi Antonelli – and in 2022 he raced in F3 with the Prema team, finishing in third place with a prestigious victory at Spa in Belgium in the Sprint race. In 2023 in F2 he won four races, finishing sixth in the standings, second among rookies behind the Frenchman Alpine Victor Martins. At a karting level, in 2017 he won the Kartmasters British Grand Prix and in 2019 the IAME European series and then repeated it at an international level in 2020.
The prize eluded him for two editions in a row
Oliver Bearman has been shortlisted for the award in both 2021 and 2022 Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Awardbut in 2021 it was Zak O'Sullivan (Williams driver) who won, while in 2022 it was Luke Browning who won.
Vasseur looks at him carefully
According to what was reported in today's edition of The Corriere dello Sport Oliver Bearman is a special observation of team principal Frederic Vasseur regarding Ferrari of the future, potentially even close. Bearman's path would follow that of Charles Leclerc, who grew up in the Maranello academy and then joined the Scuderia in 2019. Both seem to have a 'weakness' for Baku, given that in F2 Bearman 'bloomed' in Azerbaijan in 2023, dominating the weekend, scoring pole position and obtaining both victories in the Sprint and Feature Race. Bearman has already declared that if he lands in F1 he will race with the number #87, the one used by his father who is now CEO of the Aventum company specializing in insurance, a sponsor that has always accompanied Oliver in his career in motorsport.
