Producer Yoshinori Kitase and creative director Tetsuya Nomura talked about the importance of the characters of Sephiroth And Aerith in the history of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in an interview given to the PlayStation Blog. Apparently it will be even larger than what they had in the original. In particular, Sephiroth will be more in-depth, as explained
At this point, pay close attention, because below there will be some information previews about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. If you don't want to have any, don't read any further.
Two fundamental characters
On Sephiroth, Kitase he immediately explained that without it he will be given more space: “The story in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth begins after the team's escape from Midgar and continues up to the Forgotten Capital. In the original game, Sephiroth barely appears in this section, but in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the driving force of the story in this void. He is represented even more thoroughly than in the original game and in my opinion this makes him an even more charismatic and intriguing protagonist than before.” Then he elaborated by explaining in more detail: “The scene at the beginning of the game where Sephiroth joins your party and fights together with Cloud was very emotional. One of the distinctive features of this game is the new synergy system where the characters they team up to perform combined attacks and seeing Cloud and Sephiroth fight together like this was very exciting.”
To what Kitase said, Nomura added: “Theevolution of the characters was not a sudden mutation: we have seen gradual changes over the course of various spin-offs and in Final Fantasy VII Remake itself and they are evolving further in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Of all the characters Sephiroth in particular has appeared in several different games, adding more detail with each appearance and making him a deeper and deeper character.
In a way, we're seeing this evolved and in-depth depiction of Sephiroth as his “return” to his roots in the remake series and so naturally his presence will be much deeper and clearer than in the original. On the other hand, fans now know much more and understand Sephiroth much better, so I hope that players can see the appeal of Sephiroth's character even better.”
Regarding Aerith, Kitase began by explaining: “The Aerith's fate is one of the most important themes in the story of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I really want people to play the game and feel it firsthand, so I won't say much else here, but in comparing this scene to the way it was presented in the original, I'm sure players will experience a wide range of emotions caused from that extra attention to detail in the way the characters were depicted.”
For the rest, we remind you that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be available starting from February 29th exclusively for PS5.
