Brazil achieved three victories in a row by defeating Ecuador 2-1 this Monday, on the fourth date of the South American Pre-Olympica result that helped them win the first place in group A for the final quadrangle of the tournament, which is held in Venezuela.
The Brazilian goals scored by midfielder Marlon Gomes (m.65) and midfielder Gabriel Pirani (m.75) defined the result of this match, which took place at the Brígido Iriarte stadium, in the city of Caracas.
At the beginning, Brazil seemed suffocated by the Ecuadorian pressure, but after the 20th minute they came back and improved their presence in the opponent's area. Proof of this was the pass that Alexsander Gomes arranged for Endrick Felipe, the star of the Brazilian U-23 team, to hit a header that deflected, but was about to open the scoring.
Meanwhile, Ecuador stood firm against its opponents and managed to show an even game, despite facing one of the strongest teams in the tournament. La Tri managed to open the scoring in the 59th minute, when midfielder Patrick Mercado took a rebound and sent the ball into the goal, but, six minutes later, Endrick crossed inside the area for Gomes to equalize 1-1.
Brazil's second came from the feet of Pirani who, in the 75th minute, won the ball and fired an accurate shot that sealed the defeat for the Ecuadorians. Brazil, certain of its place in the final phase of the competition, only has to face Venezuela on Thursday, on the fifth date. Meanwhile, Ecuador rests with seven points in second place in group A, awaiting the result of Venezuela, which needs two victories to snatch the place in the final quadrangular.
The Pre-Olympic tournament, which is held for the first time on Venezuelan soil and grants two places to Paris 2024, will define a regional champion, a title held by Argentina, and a runner-up, a place occupied in the last edition by Brazil, which ended up taking the gold in Tokyo 2020.
