Samsung has announced that its new Galaxy S24 flagship in China will leverage Baidu's AI chatbot, the Chinese search giant, to integrate advanced features in the absence of additional mobile services and Google's app store, which are not available in the country. Baidu's Ernie Bot will power the “Circle and Search” feature on Chinese Galaxy S24 devices, allowing users to perform quick searches by underlining text or drawing a circle on images or videos for instant results. Outside of China, this feature is powered by Google and powered by the company's Gemini AI.
In a statement, Baidu VP Chen Zifan explained that, after unveiling Ernie Bot, discussions were held with Samsung about integrating its AI capabilities into the manufacturer's devices, with Baidu's cloud unit establishing a strategic partnership with Samsung. Baidu-supported AI features on the Galaxy S24 series will include voice-to-text translation and the ability to summarize meetings, articles and other content, Chen said. In 2023, Baidu co-founder and CEO Robin Li said that the latest version of its generative AI model, Ernie 4.0, has reached a level of sophistication and capability comparable to that of OpenAI's ChatGPT-4.
