In the statements she made during an interview with CNN, Pelosi did not provide any evidence for her words.
When asked whether the position rejecting President Joe Biden's policy regarding the war in Gaza could harm the Democratic Party in the presidential elections in November, Pelosi said, “For them, the call for a ceasefire is a message from Mr. Putin… Don't be fooled, this is related.” “Directly what (Russian President Vladimir Putin) would like to see.”
She added, “I believe that some of these demonstrators are spontaneous, natural, and honest. I see that some of them have a connection to Russia… Some aspects of financing must be investigated, and I want to ask the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate this.”
These statements are the first in which a prominent American lawmaker accuses Putin of supporting American demonstrators demanding a ceasefire.
The United States has recently witnessed the organization of protests to demand a ceasefire in Gaza, some of which were organized near airports and bridges in New York City and Los Angeles, in addition to protests outside the White House and marches in Washington. Protesters also boycotted Biden's speeches and events.
A group of human rights groups, Jewish groups, and anti-war rights groups are behind organizing these protests.
The attack launched by Hamas on October 7th on Israel led to the death of 1,200 people, according to Israeli statistics.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza stated that the military campaign carried out by Israel after the Hamas attack caused the death of more than 26,000 Palestinians, or more than one percent of the Strip’s population of 2.3 million people, amid fears that a large number of others may be buried under the rubble.
The Israeli bombing destroyed a large part of the densely populated Strip, leaving most Gazans homeless, causing a shortage of food supplies that threatens famine, and stopping most hospitals from working.
