The number of accidents recorded on highways granted to the private sector in Brazil increased by 14.6% in 2023. The data are from ANTT (National Land Transport Agency), which recorded an addition of 3,213.4 km in the latest statistical yearbook of privatized highways. In 2023, ANTT recorded 76,637 accidents on privatized highways. In total, 137,692 people emerged uninjured from the events, while 39,786 were injured. The total number of deaths was 1,908. In 2022, there were 1,488 deaths.
Traffic on privatized highways increased by 11.7% last year.
Revenue from road concessionaires increased by 28.2% in the period. ANTT recorded the companies' revenues from January to September. New sections represented 16% of the increase in revenue, while already established concessions had a 12.2% increase in revenue.
