Judgments | A man drove drunk on the road, bumping into others in Kirkkonummi

A man drifted dangerously and crashed drunk on the highway in Kirkkonummi and finally drove off the road.

Man drove on Turuntie in Kirkkonummi so drunk that he crashed into the car in front, drove off the road and crashed into a fence.

The accused's blood alcohol concentration at the time of sampling after driving was 2.68 parts per thousand.

He explained the situation by saying that he would have consumed 3.5–4 desi of Jaloviin immediately after driving off the road.

The accused said that he got a ride away from the scene. He said that for some reason he threw the bottle of Jaloviina out of the passenger car window.

No it is possible that the accused would have drunk such a large amount of alcohol after driving, the district court decided.

The driver of the passenger car did not see such an event either.

The accused said that he knew that after a traffic accident, he had to stop and wait for the police. However, he had immediately asked for a ride out of the place. According to the court, this supported the fact that he was driving drunk and therefore could not wait for the police.

The man was sentenced in the district court of Länsi-Uusimaa for aggravated drunk driving and endangering traffic safety to three months' unconditional imprisonment.

The Helsinki Court of Appeal upheld the district court's verdict.
