Schumacher starts again from Endurance
When he was dropped by Haas at the end of the 2022 season, Mick Schumacher believed that for a driver with his aspirations there could be no other path than Formula 1. After a year of total hiatus, however, the German changed his mind, joining the Alpine team for the 2024 Endurance season: an experience that can raise the son of the artist and – who knows – allow him to play his cards for a return to the Circus which at the moment would be sensational.
Schumacher, after a year on the bench at Mercedes, knows that this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to return to the Circus: doing well in Alpine means catching the attention of teams again in a Formula 1 that doesn't know how to wait for rookies (and has demonstrated again this year with Nyck de Vries).
Schumacher's words
For the German, F1 is a goal to pursue but this does not mean that the other categories should be snubbed: “Being in Formula 1 also subjects you to difficulties that you don't really see. F1 has always been a dream and will always remain a dream. But there is no reason to stay here without running and falling behind everyone. I prefer to go to the track, find a championship and develop my skills. Ultimately, if this doesn't lead to a return to F1 but to another career, I will still be happy to do it“, admitted the German to the F1 website.
“I think the most important point for me to explore is that now as a driver I know much more what I want from the team, what I believe I am worth and what I can give to a team“, he added. “Obviously in my first year in Formula 1 it was difficult to understand what my position should be and how far I could go with my comments and everything. Having worked with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell for a year, I know how high the bar is and how far I can push myself, and I have no problem sharing my information in the future“.
