The Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Norway, Sameh Shoukry and Espen Barth Eide, agreed yesterday to intensify coordination and cooperation between Egypt and Norway in order to mobilize more international humanitarian support for the Gaza Strip.
In a phone call, the two ministers discussed in detail the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, and the moves aimed at fully implementing Security Council Resolution 2720 regarding facilitating, coordinating and monitoring the process of bringing humanitarian aid into the Strip, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The two ministers affirmed the continuation of providing the necessary support and facilities, as well as mobilizing the necessary international support, in order to ensure the full and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
They touched on the work of the liaison committee dedicated to coordinating international aid provided to the Palestinian people, in light of the two countries’ membership in the committee, where it was agreed to intensify coordination and cooperation between the two countries. Shoukry stressed Egypt's firm commitment, since the beginning of the crisis, to continue political and diplomatic movements, and with important international parties, to remove obstacles to the process of entering aid, stressing the importance of providing full political support by the international community to the United Nations Chief Humanitarian Coordinator for the success of her assigned tasks, in accordance with a resolution. The Security Council to accelerate the sending of aid shipments to the Gaza Strip.
The two ministers agreed to continue consultation and coordination during the coming period to support efforts to contain the crisis and limit its humanitarian repercussions on the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank.
In addition, Shukri stressed, in another phone call with Antonio Taiani, Deputy Prime Minister and Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, that reaching a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire remains the only way to end the crisis situation in Gaza and limit the increase in violence in the region.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid explained that the two ministers discussed the current tensions in the region against the backdrop of the situation in Gaza, including in the Lebanese arena, and the security of navigation, and they agreed on the importance of intensifying movements at the regional and international levels in order to limit the expansion of the circle of conflict in the region, and to fuel… Efforts to reduce escalation with various parties, in support of the pillars of regional and international peace and security.
