With just a few days to go until the end of the 2024 Dakar, the fight between Sebastien Loeb and Carlos Sainz is heating up, with just twenty minutes separating the two riders. And with the 27th stage victory for the Frenchman, the media, including Motorsport.com, went to speak to the manager of one of the leading manufacturers, David Richards, who praised the work of his rivals.
Driving for Prodrive, and with the Frenchman under his wing, he has the chance to win the Touareg Trophy, although the Briton has indicated that it will be very difficult, because the Spaniard is an “experienced” driver, despite his age. The boss of the English team also assured that only the Audi driver could lose the race at this point.
When asked about the battle between two WRC legends, he replied: “It will be a very difficult fight. Carlos Sainz has a lot of experience: he has been doing the Dakar for many years, but it is more difficult for Carlos to lose now, because Carlos will automatically win. I am sure that everyone believes it, so they will say to Carlos: 'You have to take the car to the end now, you will win it'.”
He was also asked if he was impressed by the Spaniard's performances given his 61 years of age, an age at which he could once again break all the historical records of this edition: “I'm amazed. Most of the guys who are 61 years old are to retire, and I'm ten years older than him, and I should retire too, but I won't retire until we win the Dakar.”
