Martin and the end-of-season interviews
After the excellent year which saw him – surprisingly – compete for the world championship with 'Pecco' Bagnaia until the last race in Valencia, Jorge Martin has given several interviews in the days following the conclusion of the championship.
The Spaniard's statements did not go unnoticed, in particular those dedicated to the official Ducati team. The 25-year-old from Madrid underlined that he believes he deserves a place in the factory team, threatening to look elsewhere with a view to 2025, but also dedicating not too politically correct digs at Enea Bastianini (“I understand that Enea had a bad year, but he raced 14 or 15 GPs and he won 1 because he had the front tire pressure at 1.2. Then I would have won too.”
Pernat replies to Martin
Bastianini didn't want to reply to his Spanish rival, but he didn't do the same Carlo Pernatwhich from the columns of MowMag he spoke specifically about Spanish: “I want to say one thing, because I read statements around that are starting to bother me a little: Jorge Martin isn't making a great impression by always returning to the issue. I think the riders need to let the track do the talking.”
The Genoese manager continued: “Enea Bastianini made her speak in 2022, overwhelmingly winning the comparison with Martin. Martinhowever, without taking anything away from his 2023 season which was extraordinary, he cannot say that he won by a landslide over Bastianini, given that Aeneas, in fact, was never there. And he still won a race this year, even sand Martin had to have his say there too. So, if I were Martin, I would wait for the direct confrontation, but everyone makes their own choices and says what they want. We would miss him…“, concluded Pernat, who explained that he sees Bastianini among the favorites for the 2024 title.
