With one of the two staying grandsons (9), my husband and I are going to see one of the nativity scenes that are still in my hometown of Sibbe today. Sibbe is the only place in the Netherlands where marl is still extracted from the ground and all the figures of the nativity scene that we now admire are artistically sculpted from this unique natural stone. “Very well made,” says grandson. But pointing to the mushrooms and other decorations that frame the protective glass, he says with the look of an expert: “You can just get that at Action.”
