The Elysee Palace announced this Monday, January 8, that the Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, presented her resignation, which was accepted. The announcement comes as President Emmanuel Macron seeks to give new impetus to his second term in office, ahead of the European parliamentary elections and the Paris Olympic Games in the summer of this year.

Élisabeth Borne steps down as Prime Minister of France. At the moment, President Emmanuel Macron has not confirmed who will replace her in office.
His departure is known after a year marked by political crises, generated by controversial measures, such as the reforms of the pension system and the immigration laws promoted by the president, re-elected for a second term in April 2022.
Likewise, Borne, who according to the Elysée submitted his resignation and it was accepted, leaves his prominent place in Macron's Administration ahead of the elections to the European Parliament, which will take place in June of this year. Political experts predict that in these elections the Eurosceptics will obtain record advances, at a time of widespread discontent among voters due to the increase in the cost of living and the failed attempts of different governments in Europe to stop the growing migratory flows.
In a message published on the X platform, the head of state thanked Borne for his role in the Government. “Her work in the service of our nation has been exemplary every day. You implemented our project with the courage, commitment and determination of women of state. With all my heart, thank you,” Macron said.
Madame la Première minister, chère @Elisabeth_Borne, your work in the service of our Nation at this time exemplary. Vous avez mis en œuvre notre project avec le courage, l'engagement et la détermination des femmes d'État. De tout cœur, merci. pic.twitter.com/G26ifKfKzj

In France, opinion polls show that Macron's Renaissance party is between 8 and 10 percentage points behind the National Rally, the party of far-right leader and former presidential candidate Marine Le Pen.
In recent weeks, political experts have anticipated a possible reshuffle of the Government, just after the adoption of measures in Parliament on stricter immigration rules. A step that exposed deep cracks in the centrist ruling alliance, led by the president.
In fact, Health Minister Aurélien Rousseau submitted his resignation in protest of the controversial immigration law that the far right hailed as an “ideological victory” for its political wing.
