Two people were arrested as alleged perpetrators of stealing fuel from trucks in the Northwest region. The arrested men, both residents of Cehegín, are accused of a crime against property. The Civil Guard has so far clarified three crimes, and managed to recover part of the stolen fuel and a battery, in addition to confiscating the means used to perpetrate the robberies.
The Benemérita investigation began last October, when they detected that using force, fuel was being stolen from professional vehicles in the transport sector, while they were parked in the vicinity of service stations in the municipalities of Caravaca. and Cehegin. These events caused a certain social alarm among the union's workers.
The first investigations carried out by the civil guards allowed them to know the 'modus operandi' of the robbers. In them, the Civil Guard could see that the perpetrators had experience when it came to carrying out the robberies, since they did not usually raise suspicions among the victims.
The criminal activity began with surveillance and prior study of its targets, generally large trucks, to carry out rapid and effective action without being detected. Once the vehicle was selected, they very discreetly approached it and, using force, opened security grilles and fuel tank caps and left for a few moments.
If they had not been detected, a few minutes later, they returned with a hose to pump the fluid and large jugs, generally with a capacity of 25 liters, which were connected to the vehicles' tanks, which in a very short time were completely empty. .
The two alleged perpetrators of the events acted at dawn and used a car to travel and transport the bottles and hoses. When they arrived at the place, one of them carried out surveillance work in the vicinity, while the second broke into the tanks and emptied them. On some occasions, in addition to stealing fuel, they also seized the trucks' batteries.
As a result of the investigation, in which the Benemérita had the collaboration of the Local Police of Caravaca de la Cruz, the civil guards identified two residents of Cehegín, who, presumably, were responsible for the crimes investigated, therefore that the main line of investigation was established on the two suspects.
Once all the necessary evidence was obtained, a search device was established for the suspects, which culminated in their location, the recovery of part of the stolen fuel and a battery, and the seizure of the means used to carry out the criminal activity, such as several large capacity bottles and hoses used to pump the stolen fuel.
The suspects, with a history of similar crimes, are accused of allegedly committing a crime against property. During the arrest of one of them, the civil guards verified that there was a court order for other reasons and he was taken to prison. The second of them was investigated and proceedings were brought against him for the same crimes.
The Civil Guard has so far clarified three criminal acts committed in Caravaca de la Cruz and Cehegín, although the open investigation continues, since its involvement in more crimes is not ruled out. The detainee, the person under investigation, the recovered and seized effects and the proceedings carried out were placed at the disposal of the Investigative Court of Caravaca (Murcia).
