Vannacci, between missed presentations and bold declarations: “In the subway I pretended to slip to touch the hand of black people”

General Vannacci was one of the protagonists of the 2023 summer news. The reason? The publication of his book “The world upside down”, a volume he himself described as an attempt to “represent the state of mind of all those who, like me, perceive a dissonant and annoying general tendency in everyday events which differs widely from what we perceive as common feeling, such as logic and rationality”, has raised much controversy.

In the aftermath of the news arriving from Verona, where the meeting that should have been held with Roberto Vannacci was canceled due to threats made to the hotel that was supposed to host him, the president of the cultural association “Il Sostizio”, Gabriele De Rosa (who is also a municipal councilor of Fratelli d'Italia), wanted to assure the 320 people who had booked the “Da Vinci” room, sold-out for weeks. «The presentation of the book “The world upside down” has also been announced via social media and will take place regularly as scheduled».

It's not the first time he's missed a presentation. In fact, almost always. Wherever the general arrives. Sit-in, last December 13th, in San Donato Milanese; same scene the next day, in Turin, in front of the San Carlo study center; on December 20, in Piacenza, while he is inside the President Theatre, scuffles between demonstrators and a group of comrades gathering to celebrate their favorite soldier by distributing belts. He also protests in Piombino, Monza, Pescara, Udine.

But the general talks and talks loudly from every post, as reported by the Corriere. “It was in 1975, in Paris, that I began to come into contact, on a daily basis, with black people. I clearly remember how much they aroused my curiosity, so much so that, in the subway, I pretended to lose my balance to accidentally place my hand on theirs and understand whether their skin felt more or less wrinkled than ours.”

Will we see him in politics? The League is divided on Vannacci. The President of the Chamber, Lorenzo Fontana, was clear: he doesn't like the general. Identical concept also expressed by minister Giancarlo Giorgetti and governors Luca Zaia and Massimiliano Fedriga, worried about losing the moderate vote in their regions.
