These have been some fantastic years for Godzilla. Since the release of the 2014 film, the kaiju has enjoyed a new wave of popularity in the West. In this way, many had been waiting for the premiere of Godzilla Minus One, the new Japanese film about this character, which is far from the Monserverse that continues to grow. Thus, The first reviews are now available, and they paint a positive picture.
Godzilla Minus One debuted with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, this number has since decreased to a positive 97% with 37 reviews from professional media. It’s been mentioned here that this is the best Godzilla movie, and Takashi Yamazaki’s direction is, quite simply, phenomenal. This is what Forbes commented about it:
“The best Godzilla movie ever made and a masterpiece of kaiju cinema.”
For its part, The New York Times added:
“Writer-director Takashi Yamazaki integrates crowds and effects with a sure hand and gives the violence a severe air.”
Similarly, Collider mentioned:
“Whether you want to read it as a metaphor for immense loss or simply get carried away by the thrill of a solid monster movie, Godzilla Minus One rarely puts a foot wrong, even as it works with very big feet. The King has truly returned.”
In this regard, this is what he commented The Daily Beast:
“As Toho Studios’ new ‘Godzilla Minus One’ proves, the Japanese know how to get the iconic radioactive giant right.”
Everything seems to indicate that Godzilla Minus One is the Godzilla movie everyone has been waiting for. Although the film premiered in Japan earlier this month, the rest of the world will be able to enjoy this installment starting tomorrow, December 1. Unfortunately, in the case of Mexico and Latin America, We will have to wait until December 28 to see this feature film in the cinema.
On related topics, here you can see the new trailer for the next King Kong and Godzilla movie. Likewise, this is the trailer for Godzilla Minus One.
Editor’s Note:
It’s amazing that in recent years we’ve had two perspectives of Godzilla. On the one hand, the West has focused on creating a shared universe with King Kong, which emphasizes action, while in Japan the consequences of World War II and the use of nuclear weapons continue to be explored.
