According to what was reported by da Phil Spencer during an interview during the CCXP Convention in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Microsoft is getting organized for the launch of a Store for mobile platformscapable of competing with Apple and Google.
“It’s an important part of our strategy and something we’re actively working on not only as it relates to Microsoft, but also talking to various partners who would see more choice in monetization possibilities within the smartphone apps“Phil Spencer reported.
The head of Microsoft Gaming did not talk about details or precise timing for the possible launch of the project, but this could already begin to materialize during the 2024: “I don’t think it’s several years away,” Spencer reported, “I think it could be sooner than that time frame.”
The Activision Blizzard King acquisition is important for this
L’acquisition of Activision Blizzardin Microsoft’s plans, is part of this expansion project towards the mobile market, considering that it also includes King, a true giant in the field.
With the completion of the operation, Xbox has already secured an important place in the mobile landscape, even if only with regard to control of the Candy Crush brand and derivatives. As a $90 billion market, it’s clear that Microsoft sees it as a possible El Dorado.
On the other hand, in recent years a certain intolerance towards the duopoly represented by Google and Apple, which alone practically share the entire mobile market with their own stores. Even from the point of view of third-party companies, as well as regulatory bodies, the idea of new players within the market is seen with a certain positivity.
By taking advantage of this general climate, Microsoft could leverage itself to be able to enter the mobile market by offering a new Store capable of presenting more favorable conditions of the previous ones, given that the famous 30% “tax” on transactions continues to be little appreciated by developers.
